Millburn

Millburn is a lovely residential community located in the southwest section of Essex County. It is convenient to the Garden State Parkway, Routes 78 and 24. It also offers direct train service to Manhattan, Hoboken and Newark as well as bus service to many locations. The town is probably most famous for the section known as Short Hills and for the Short Hills Mall which offers very high end shopping. It has been described as “Fifth Avenue indoors”. The proximity to the South Mountain Reservation is also a highlight as well as the Papermill Playhouse which is one of the country’s outstanding non profit regional theatres and the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum and Bird Sanctuary. The community is also home to the Short Hills Hilton, which is a 5 star hotel opposite the Short Hills Mall, as well as many fine restaurants and local businesses.

The current population of Millburn/Short Hills is just under 20,000 people. Most residents live in single family homes. There are a wide variety of architectural styles available as well as a wide variety of prices. The overall range is from $500,000 to over 12 million. The town is made up of the South Mountain area, Wyoming section, Millburn proper and Short Hills. Short Hills is further divided into Glenwood, Brookhaven, Knollwood, Country Club, Deerfield, Merrywood, Montaintop, White Oak Ridge and Old Short Hills Estates.

The schools are excellent and have been ranked top 3 in the state by New Jersey Magazine. There are 5 elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.

In addition, the town offers 5 parks and playgrounds, a municipal pool, a Par 3 golf course, tennis and paddle courts.
